World of Warcraft: Shadowlands! Covenants and Levelling Up

World of Warcraft’s latest expansion, Battle for Azeroth, has been out for about a year and a half already and its last patch update is right around the corner! Players are excited about the new content that will be available for them as well as other new additions to the game.

First of all; there are exciting things happening lore-wise. We will finally learn what’s next in Sylvanas Windrunner’s plans which is something everyone’s been looking forward to after the Blizzcon trailer.

The level system will be changed as there are many issues with it right now and Blizzard knows this. The most critical problem is that levelling up to 120 feels like a chore and not how levelling up in an MMORPG should feel.

Every time players level up they should feel like they’ve accomplished something and that their character is becoming stronger; baby steps towards reaching the level cap which is where their character should be the strongest it can be.

However, levelling up feels bland and boring, some levels being entirely skippable (especially in the early levels) which completely ruins the levelling experience for some.

Shadowlands will bring along a level squish, the first World of Warcraft has ever seen, which will lower the level cap from 120 to 60. Additionally, the way players level up will also change. Instead of questing through the whole content World of Warcraft has to offer, players will start in a new area called Exile’s Reach, which will be designed to portrait everything new and exciting about World of Warcraft.

Upon reaching level ten, players will then be able to select which expansion they’d like to quest in through levels 10 through 50 until they finally reach the Shadowlands which is where players will quest through their final 10 levels.

Players will be questing in four zones located within the Shadowlands, and each zone has its Covenant. Covenants are powerful beings who reign certain areas in the Shadowlands; the player will know more about each Covenant as they level up to level 60 which is when they will be prompted to choose one of them.

When players join a Covenant, they will be granted a class ability, which will work similarly to Legion’s artefact abilities. A Covenant ability, which will be different depending on which Covenant the player chooses, an armour and weapon transmog in the style of that specific Covenant and access to the Covenant Sanctum, a special area where only players who chose that Covenant can be.

Covenants will also feature their campaign available only to those who choose them and an upgradable mount. Players will be free to switch Covenants at any times, but it will be time-consuming to get everything up to speed.

Players will also have the ability to Soulbind and there will be multiple Soulbind options per Covenant. Soulbinds will bring something similar to a Talent Tree and players can switch their Soulbind to best match their playstyle or whenever the situation demands it.
